Swift's Hibernian Lounge on East 4th Street

There is a new venue for Singers/Songwriters in the East Village...on 4th Street - to be exact. The place is called Swift's Hibernian Lounge, 34 East 4th Street between 3rd Avenue (The Bowery) and Lafayette.

Every Sunday night you'll find the best folk style performers anywhere. I'm the MC, and I sing a few times during the night along with many others. It starts at 8PM and runs until 11:30.

It's a nice night out, my friends...really. No cover...and 20 ounce pints of Guinness or Harp are only six dollars. On any given Sunday you can listen to Sam and Karen Duffy, with Dave Shelton on the acoustic bass. Sam and Karen always get the place going, always. Hubby Jenkings too. Hubby is one of the finest young blues and hollars - players and singers you're going to hear anywhere. Come down and see for yourself.

One of my old friends and a spellbinding guitarist and singer, Erik Frandsen will be there as well. Erik used to back up Dylan in the early days, Van Ronk and Pat Sky too. You have to listen to Erik. No one plays guitar like him and his voice is so honest it'll curl your toes.

Rob Taube, who has run many a singer/songwriter night around New York City, will be there again Sunday. Rob plays, sings and writes like the wind...a solid pro in every sense of the word.

Another old friend of mine, Jack Hardy, will be singing this Sunday night again. Jack has so many albums and CDs out that I'll bet he's forgotten just how many he has. He's been a leading figure in the New York City writer/singer scene since the early seventies. He writes and performs beautifully.

I first met Jack when we split a night together at the Bitter End...1968, when The Bitter End was still The Bitter End. Then we met again during the Kenny's Castaways heyday, mid seventies, when Pat Kenny had us both headlining for weeks at a time.

Kat Devlin will be with us this Sunday as well...a wonderful female singer and writer....a complete pleasure for all ears. Steve Zellin -- the singing C.P.A., is also a classic...don't miss him. A few weeks ago the Wall Street Journal came in and interviewed him for an article that will be coming out in The Journal around the middle of this month.

Sunday evenings flow easily at Swifts. It's is a warm, friendly place, and the two owners, Michael and Dan, are as nice as can be. The whole gang there is great. Everyone has fun and mills around relaxing and listening. The glasses are big, the performers are great, and you really shouldn't miss it. You owe it to yourself. Come on over and be a part of a very, very good thing. You should trust me on this one, really -- I'm telling you the truth. See you there.

Randy Burns.
