Review:
I was sure that
this would be worse than it is. Unfortunately, this was almost as
bad. I understand why they make films like this, but why
Dreamworks had to make such a dishonest variation is beyond me.
Rosalee Futch(Kate Bosworth) and her pal Cathy Feely(Ginnifer
Goodwin) and huge Tad Hamilton(Josh Duhamel) fans, and they drag
their pal PeteTopher Grace) [and boss at the local Piggly Wiggly]
to each and everyone of his movie.
Meanwhile Tad’s having trouble getting work as he’s a drunken
lout. So, his agent (Sean Hayes) and manager(Nathan Lane), both
named Richard Levy [in a waste of a good joke], set up a publicity
stunt: Tad would have the winner of a charity raffle flown to LA
for a "dream date." Guess who wins?
Rosie’s purity makes Tad fall in love with her and he flies out to
West Virginia to win her. Pete is not happy with that. It’s all
very predictable, it’s all very inside baseball and not really all
that interesting. Except for Lane and Bosworth, none of these
actors have had any starring roles before on the big screen, I
guess this works because we have to see them as their characters.
Unfortunately, we aren’t interested in any of them.
Also, the Hollywood in-jokes mostly fall flat. The characters
are supposed to be relatively intelligent, and it seems that the
writers don’t give them enough respect. It’s makes one kind of
queasy.
This film is made especially for teenaged girls, and if you’re
not one of them, avoid this like the plague.
