Review:
You
can tell when a studio is trying to bury a film. They schedule a
press screening on a Friday afternoon, when they know that
everyone's already gone for the weekend. Now if there's a film
that deserves to get buried, it's probably this one. There's no
there there.
Supercross is Clear Channel's entry into the sports business. It's
basically a souped-up version of motocross motorcycle racing. Now
if this was a documentary this might be worth watching, but
nooooooooo, it's cheap melodrama by beginners with little talent.
Bart Baker and Ken Solarz's screenplay is rather lame. The little
guy defeats the big corporate giant, following the sibling rivalry
between the two leads(Steve Howey and Mike Vogel), brothers who
have the same passion for the sport and are very competitive.
One of the problems is that there isn't enough character
development. Oh, they try, but except for the two leads, everybody
is just a cardboard cutout, The girlfriends(Sophia Bush and
Cameron Richardson) basically just sit there, the bad guys just
snarl in the background, and we can tell the ending a mile away.
Now this is basically a commercial for the sport, and it's not a
very good one at that. By the time you read this it'll have come
and gone so who cares?
