Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Director:
Doug Liman

Cast:
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Adam Brody, Vince Vaughn, Angela Bassett

Rating: (1 to 5 stars)

MPAA Rating:   PG-13 for sequences of violence, intense action, sexual content and brief strong language.

Review:

John (Brad Pitt) and Jane Smith(Angelina Jolie) have been married for about five or six years and their union's beginning to suffer. The reason is that they're actually a pair of super-spies who are using their home-life as a cover, and don't know the other's secret identity. So their board tears with each other.

This part is rather boring, except for the action sequence, but then we get to the good part. John and Jane are given the same assignment by their respective bosses and they inadvertently blow it. They are now in trouble and soon discover that their next assignment is to kill each other. Which they fail to do with relish.

When this mission isn't accomplished, John and Jane's respective assistants (Vince Vaughn and Kerry Washington)are informed that there's a half million dollar price on their heads. ..that's the plot folks.

But this isn't about plot, it's about snappy banter and blowing stuff up, which is why most people show up to this kind of thing. Silly fictions hitting each other, What more do you want, Philosophy?

This it delivers in spades. Jolie and Pitt are extremely experienced as action stars, and this is what they do best. After all, he was nominated for an Oscar® and she actually snagged one. They know what they're doing, the stunt people know what their doing and the second unit people know what to do as well. This is an extremely professionally made film and it does everything that it's supposed to do.

It entertains.

Some people want more than that. They want deep drama and complications that tug at the emotions exposing the truth of the human condition. You can see that on the news. This is NOT for those people. It's for those who wish to turn their brains off for a couple of hours and see stuff blow up.

If you don't like action comedies and prefer slow-paced French melodramas, don't go see this. But if you want to have a very good time, see this.
