Review:
Chris
Rock has been famous for a really long time for doing topical
humor. He’s also done some movies that made some money, and so,
with these credentials, Dreamworks has given him a vanity
production.
…and like most vanity productions, it sucks bigtime.
Most of it at any rate.
The film is a fantasy. The Presidential nominee’s plane crashes
the Vice Presidential nominees plane, and the party is looking for
a new one. So they hire DC alderman Mays Gilliam (Chris Rock) to
take over, knowing he will lose.
Then we get to see some really bad pathos and some really good
schtick. When Rock or Bernie Mac [as our hero’s brother and
running mate] are just out there doing stand-up, the film shines,
but everything else is lame as lame can be. A movie should be fun,
this isn’t.
One of these days, Rock will managed to get into a great film,
this ain’t one
of them.
