FRENCH ROAST
Cafe

Go where the soup is always Du Jour! Original is the only word for the. Newly opened in Greenwich Village at the corner of 6th Avenue and 11th Street, French Roast Cafe is a Healthy Eater's dream come true. The quality is gourmet class, and moderately priced for this often pricey neighborhood.

FRENCH ROAST at Tel. (212) 533-9272

For a moderately sized place they have an enormous and specialized offering of foods that stimulate the palate from morning till the early following morning's hours. They boast  not one or two menus each day but SIX distinctly different  menus:

Breakfast- a delicious array of granola cereals, fruits to omelettes like asparagus and brie! Plain ol' eggs, too, prepared as gourmet cuisine should be. You can get French Toast ala French Roast, muffins, croissants and a choice of any of 12 various coffees.

Brunch- you can still grab Granola! How about Salmon Eggs Benedict? Eggs Florentine, anyone? Smoked Salmon Vegetable  Hash with Poached Egg is absolutely divine at $7.75! There's Soup and light fare like Grilled Portobello Mushrooms over Mixed Greens for just $6.75! The Croque Monsieur Sandwich is a splendid combo of smoked ham and gruyere cheese, an excellent bite for the late starter, and much more including a great burger.

Afternoon- why not a later lunch? Salad? How about the Salad Nicoise with Onion Vinaigrette? Mmmm! Mmmm! Smoked Chicken Sandwich is a delight as is the 7 grain bread sandwich of sprouts, avocado and blue cheese. Maybe Duck Mousse is your taste, Mussels Provencale or Chicken Salad with Chicken Breast. It's all superb!

Dinner- Wild Mushroom Ravioli is a winner with roasted garlic and shaved parmesan cheese. Liver, Pork, Escargot...you name it! But to reveal too much would kill the surprise. Discover new dishes you may never have imagined but are glad to find at last! Sesame Crusted Salmon with sautéed Spinach is a taste treat.

After Midnight- the lights get low and after Jazz at a local Club you might want a burger. Or something lighter, A Croque Madam-
smoked ham, gruyere, with a sunnyside egg on top!  Soup and Salads too....or a real Steak Sandwich for the hungry musician in you. A late night supper eater might dig into the Steak Frites, a hearty grilled sirloin with fresh French fried potatoes. You can also get eggs, and French Toast after 2am.

I heartily recommend a trip to French Roast! It's my new favorite spot in the Village!

We give French Roast Cafe 4 Arches
